She played a crucial role in defending Macao against repeated attacks by the Dutch. The fortress was equipped with guns, military barracks, wells and an arsenal that contained enough ammunition and provisions to support a two-year siege.Before 1740, the fort was used as a residence for the military chief in charge of the defense of Macao, before becoming a military zone closed to access. In 1965, the barracks of the fort were replaced by a weather station, which became open to the public the year after. Between 1996 and 1998, under the aegis of the Macau Government, the weather station was relocated and replaced by the current Macao Museum.By visiting it, you will have a panoramic view of Macao.<h3>Visit the Macao Museum<\/h3>Located in the heart of the Macau Fortress, the museum tells the history and culture of the city, thanks to many historical artifacts that illustrate the way of life as well as the culture of the different communities that inhabited it.On the first floor, you can learn more about how civilizations in the West and China developed before the arrival of the Portuguese in the Pearl River Delta in the 16th century. Here you will find the history of the region, its commercial activities, but also its religions and the culture of both civilizations.On the second floor you will see different aspects of the arts and traditions of the city.
